Normally I am a textile student, but the last 3 weeks I have had a course in illustration. It has been very exiting, challenging and rewarding. We were only allowed to use felt-tip pens and had to explore the opportunities of this one material. The first week I had a lot of confusing moments. It was so challenging to find an interesting and original look with the childish-looking felt-tip pens. After some days I started only to draw textures and patterns. It was so interesting just to geek this in some days (maybe because of my textile background). We had a theme called “Another and a Better World”. In the beginning of the course I drew different cozy rooms, which I would like to stay in. Therefore I choose to draw rooms made out of simple textured surfaces. My opinion is that confusion is great sometimes. It is were you force yourself to do something else than normally.
In this post, student Gitte Lægaard from Design School Kolding tries his hand with felt tip pens for the first time in his illustration class. Check out how he fared using these drawing tools.
